Planning Commission Meeting - Housing Element Update 2023-2031
January 10, 2023
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing for the 2023-2031 Housing Element. The City updated the 2023-2031 Housing Element in response to comments from the State Housing and Community Development Department (HCD); and it is available for a second round of public review between December 30, 2022 and January 9, 2023. Following the public review period, the Planning Commission and City Council will hold public hearings to consider adoption of the Updated Housing Element.

City Council Meeting

As the City's legislative body, the San Mateo City Council represents the entire community and is empowered by the City Charter to formulate Citywide policy. San Mateo has five (5) Council Members. Each serves at large, meaning each is elected by the entire citizenry to represent the whole city, rather than just a particular district or region of the city. The council is the legislative body, represents the entire community and is empowered by the City Charter to formulate City Policy and developing a yearly Strategic Plan.

Team Up to Clean Up
January 21, 2023
Join the City of San Mateo's Monthly Cleanup group for a special outdoor event to keep San Mateo litter free and welcoming for all! Locations change on a monthly basis so please be on the look out for an email with meeting location details a couple of days before your scheduled cleanup.

Film Screening: 8 Billion Angels

Learn about how overpopulation is adversely impacting the environment and what can be done to address it. The title of the film refers to the number of people that currently inhabit the earth. In fact, on November 15th 2022, the 8 billionth person was born. The documentary connects all of the planet’s environmental emergencies, including climate change, with unsustainable population growth.

Lunar New Year Celebration
January 28 & 29, 2023
Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with festivities including traditional lion dancers, local school performances, calligraphers, meet & greet with costumed Panda, red envelope giveaway and more. Plus, you can post your New Year’s wish on our Cherry Blossom Wishing Wall in the South End of the Center.

Something Rotten - San Mateo High School
February 3-5, 9-11, 2023
San Mateo High School presents Something Rotten, a musical comedy that follows the story follows the Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel, who struggle to find success in the theatrical world as they compete with the wild popularity of their contemporary William Shakespeare. Featuring Shakespeare's best lines and Musical Theatre's best show stopping dance numbers, this show will have audiences rolling in the aisle!

Black History Month Pop-Up Museum
February 3-28, 2023
The Domini Hoskins Black History Museum & Learning Center, with support from The Northern California Chapter of the NFL Alumni Association & San Mateo County Event Center, is celebrating Black History Month! We feature 22,000 SF of exhibits on the extraordinary contributions that African-Americans have made throughout our history. There is knowledge all around us and education gives people the chance to change the world.

Lunar New Year 2023 at San Mateo County History Museum
February 4, 2023
Join us for the Asian celebration of change and the Year of the Rabbit. This free event includes performances on Courthouse Square. Inside the Museum, kids can participate in activity stations based on the Chinese zodiac. They may create a paper lantern, make a red envelope, use an abacus, make a chopstick rest, and more!

City Council "Blue Sky" Objective Setting

At the beginning of each year, City Council meets to review its existing strategic objectives and discuss how they should change. This is a great opportunity for the public to share with Council any major initiatives they believe are missing. This is much more casual than typical City Council meetings with back and forth of ideas between Council Members and with the public. This is a great opportunity for our community to get a better understanding of how Council sets City Priorities and make your ideas known.

JINX the Musical - Borel Middle School

Written by Borel alumni Makena & Teagan Reynolds with JT Kaufman is a spell-binding story of young teens maneuvering their way through a mysterious jinx that flips the lives of a socially awkward teen and the high achieving popular kid --leaving them asking What Did I Do to deserve this? Can they defy the Rules of the Jinx - or will They Never Change A Thing?

The Diary of Anne Frank - Aragon High School Spring Play
March 10–12, 17-19, 2023
The Diary of Anne Frank is based upon the famous book, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. Recounting the story of her own life in hiding as a young Jewish girl during the Holocaust, Anne Frank captivated the minds and hearts of readers everywhere with her own diary.
